Written by Dami Elebe, University of Side Hustle signals Livespot Studios’ formal move into feature film after years of shaping entertainment across television, unscripted formats, reality programming, live experiences and culture-led productions.

For Livespot Studios, University of Side Hustle is more than a feature film, it represents a deliberate expansion of the company’s storytelling footprint and a continuation of its work leveraging entertainment, culture, audience experience and contemporary African identity.
Over the years, Livespot has produced and executed major entertainment projects across formats, including The Real Housewives of Lagos, The Voice Nigeria Season 3 and Amazon’s Last One Laughing Naija. These projects reflect the company’s ability to understand audience behaviour, localise global formats, build culturally relevant entertainment properties and produce work that connects deeply with Nigerian and African audiences.
With University of Side Hustle, Livespot Studios is taking that experience into scripted film.
For Deola Art Alade, founder of livespot, Executive Producer and creative director of University of Side Hustle, the project is a meaningful step for the Studio. “University of Side Hustle is special to us because it captures something very true about Lagos, about this generation and the times we live in,” she said. “People are building, juggling, surviving and reinventing themselves every day. We wanted to tell that story with humour, style and heart.”
The nationwide digital casting call also reflects the spirit of the project. By opening the search to aspiring actors across Nigeria, Livespot Studios is using the film as an opportunity to discover fresh faces and create access for talent who may not already be inside traditional industry circles.
As African cinema continues to command attention globally, University of Side Hustle enters the landscape with a clear point of view. It is an authentic African story, a Nigerian youth culture story, and a Livespot Studios milestone.
For Livespot, the film has been in development for some time and it marks the beginning of a new phase for the studio as it continues to build entertainment properties and deepen its role in shaping contemporary African storytelling.
