Livespot Icons: Redefining Talent Representation in Africa’s Creative Economy

Our evolution into a fully integrated culture and entertainment company reflects a broader ambition to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s creative economy. Through Livespot Studios, Scenic, Spaces, Experiences, and Icons, we are building original content, live experiences, creative environments, talent pathways, and cultural platforms that strengthen different parts of the industry.

That vision is also why we established Livespot Icons. Creative industries grow because of people. Every breakthrough begins with talent, and we believe long-term careers are built through meaningful opportunities, strategic partnerships, and environments where creative potential can develop over time.

We created Livespot Icons to connect artists, actors, creators, and cultural figures with opportunities across entertainment, media, live experiences, and brand partnerships, while supporting sustainable career development.

How Talent Management Is Evolving in Africa’s Creative Economy

Representation is evolving alongside the creative industries themselves. Africa’s creative economy has expanded rapidly over the last decade, creating new opportunities for artists, actors, and creators to build careers across music, film, television, live entertainment, digital media, advertising, and entrepreneurship.

Today, we’re seeing creative professionals move across multiple disciplines, building value through diverse bodies of work. This shift has transformed what representation means to us. Managing schedules and negotiating contracts remain fundamental, but our work now calls for a deeper understanding of creative identity, commercial value, audience behaviour, cultural relevance, and long-term career development. It requires recognising opportunities that strengthen a creator’s body of work while supporting sustainable professional growth.

Why Strategic Brand Positioning Matters for African Creators

Strategic positioning has become an essential part of building enduring creative careers. Every partnership, public appearance, production, campaign, and collaboration contributes to how audiences, brands, and industry stakeholders understand a creator’s value. Thoughtful positioning strengthens credibility, builds trust, and creates opportunities that align with long-term ambitions.

Darey Art Alade, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Livespot360, puts it simply:

“Our responsibility is to recognise potential, prepare it, position it, and connect it with the right platforms. Representation creates that bridge. When we get that sequencing right, an artist’s growth stops looking accidental and starts looking inevitable.”

That thinking informs how we approach talent through Livespot Icons. Our work spans talent partnerships, bookings, casting, strategic collaborations, and cultural representation, connecting creators with opportunities that support both their creative ambitions and their commercial growth. Every collaboration contributes to a body of work that strengthens careers while creating value for productions, brands, audiences, and the wider industry.

Case Study: How University of Side Hustle Brought Our Approach to Talent Representation to Life

University of Side Hustle, Livespot Studios’ first original feature film, gave us the chance to apply these principles within a single production. Every creative decision reflected a deliberate approach to identifying talent, building complementary teams, and creating an environment where every contributor could do their best work.

For Deola Art Alade, Founder and Group CEO of Livespot360, a film should serve a much larger purpose than entertainment:

“A film should not just be a film. It can become a community, a campaign, a conversation, a world, an experience, and a platform for talent. With University of Side Hustle, we set out to build something people could belong to long after the credits roll — a platform that keeps creating opportunity.”

This belief shaped the project from its earliest stages, and it’s why our production team prioritised narrative alignment above everything else when building out the cast and crew.

Casting Strategy: Aligning Talent With the Story First

Tiwa Medubi, Managing Director of Livespot360, explains that our strategy began with a simple question: what does this story actually need? By evaluating our pool of talent through the lens of that shared creative vision, project alignment became the starting point for every casting and hiring decision on the film. Technical ability mattered, but so did collaboration, adaptability, curiosity, and a shared commitment to bringing the script to life.

Creating Opportunity for Emerging African Talent

That same approach shaped how we distributed professional opportunities throughout the production. University of Side Hustle consciously brought together experienced veterans and emerging talent, creating a collaborative set where established expertise and fresh perspectives could develop alongside one another. This was a deliberate way of opening sustainable pathways for the next generation of African filmmakers and actors.

For Medubi, this commitment to nurturing new voices is the true measure of the project’s success:

“It’s never been just about established professionals and talent; it’s primarily about emerging talent, giving them an opportunity, giving them a stage. For me, this project will be an even greater success if one or two people break out from here and become such huge stars, and I’m talking from talent behind the scenes to talent on the screen. That’s the legacy we’re building toward.”

Building an Ensemble: What We Learned on Set

This philosophy of seamless integration extended directly to the creative crew operating behind the camera. Darey Art Alade speaks to how painstakingly the team worked to make sure diverse creative energies blended on set:

“It’s been painstaking to make sure that this talent blends with that talent. It’s an ensemble cast, everybody is a lead in their own right. Bring your A-game. You are the author of your own story. That mindset is what made the set feel like a family, not just a production.”

What This Means for the Future of Talent Representation in Africa

University of Side Hustle reflects what we believe modern talent representation should achieve. It creates the industry conditions that strengthen the immediate creative work, support the individuals behind it, and contribute to an ecosystem where creative careers can grow with long-term purpose.

Through Livespot Icons, we’re building on this foundation, connecting creators with the opportunities, partnerships, and platforms that turn individual talent into lasting careers across Africa’s creative economy.
