Livespot Hosts French Creative Industry Delegation in Lagos

…Why global interest in Nigerian music now demands authentic, peer-to-peer collaboration

A first-of-its-kind French creative industry trade mission to our Lagos hub has signaled a fundamental shift in how international stakeholders approach the Nigerian music industry.

Organized by the Creative Industries Initiative for Africa (CIIFA) in partnership with the French Embassy in Nigeria, and backed by France’s Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the mission bypassed traditional corporate entry models in favor of direct, peer-to-peer engagement with local industry leadership.

The visiting delegation brought together independent music practitioners, record label owners, and talent management executives representing the core of France’s entertainment ecosystem.

Key delegates included Nils Bourdin (Project Manager at BLZ and producer of Lagos in Paris), Oriana Convelbo (Volta), Joel Houenou (TRACE Global), Beaucris Ikwa (Black Palladium Music), and Florian Abessira (Wagram). Rather than executing a standard transactional market survey, the session focused on understanding established local methodologies and identifying practical pathways for mutual market integration.

“The engagement was defined by a shared intent to explore genuine cross-border synergy,” notes our Managing Director, Tiwa Medubi. “The discussion centered on a mutual desire to understand the nuances of the local landscape and uncover realistic opportunities for collaboration. With the impressive strides the Nigerian music industry has recorded globally, the focus is now on how independent practitioners from both markets can intentionally collaborate to create a two-way pipeline for talent and infrastructure development.”

This bidirectional focus marks a critical evolution for the local creative economy. While global audiences historically looked to Nigeria strictly as a talent export market, international independent stakeholders are now looking to leverage local expertise to establish a balanced, two-way pipeline.

The dialogue centered heavily on how European artists can successfully navigate and integrate into the competitive Nigerian music market, running parallel to strategic discussions around touring partnerships, publishing administration, and co-productions.

The basis for this cultural and commercial exchange is already visible in Europe. Nils Bourdin highlighted this growing synergy, pointing to the mainstream presence of Afrobeats across French radio, streaming platforms, and live event circuits.

The sustained European box-office success of trailblazing acts like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tems, Rema, and Ayra Starr has established a long-term audience appetite for deeper market integration.

Long-term commercial expansion relies entirely on local execution capacity. Meaningful market entry requires strategic partners who intimately navigate both the cultural nuances and commercial realities on the ground.

During the session, our Chief Creative Officer, Darey Art Alade, detailed our ongoing contributions to the entertainment sector through original intellectual properties and world-class live experiences designed to anchor African creativity on a global scale.

Operating at the strategic intersection of culture, talent, and enterprise, Livespot serves as the definitive execution bridge for international partners seeking authentic, sustainable entry into the West African market.

Transitioning from a one-way talent export market to a mature, balanced ecosystem requires strict structural alignment. The long-term success of international creative partnerships depends entirely on shared economic value, intellectual property protection, and robust local execution.

This trade mission sets a practical, scalable blueprint for how global creative markets can co-invest in shared infrastructure.
