Walt Disney’s famous quote rings true every time. For us, every event is an opportunity to take things a step further, to always raise the bar a notch higher and leave the audience entertained! So, one can only imagine how excited we were when tasked by one of Nigeria’s leading Pan-African Banks (UBA) to produce the 2019 edition of the UBA CEO Awards which coincided with the brand’s 70th anniversary.  

Since the awards ceremony happens every year but you only turn 70 once, we decided it was best to work with a theme that depicted the longevity and service of the bank to its customers. It was also important for us to ensure that the chosen theme, “Platinum Gatsby”, reflected this special anniversary edition. 

Beyond creating a catchy theme that would be anticipated by all, of more importance was our creating an experience that would leave a memorable impression in people’s hearts and minds. To do this, we focused on 2 key aspects;  

  1. The Technical Production which covered everything from the stage design, lighting, screens, audio-visual content, sound, special effects and more.  
  1. Specially Choreographed Performances that told the UBA success story while ensuring we immersed the guests in the Gatsby era. 

The evening kicked off with an electrifying Gatsby themed theatrical performance where the cast performed up-tempo and energetic music from the 1920s, The Greatest Showman and brought it home with elements from Fela’s “Water No Get Enemy” and other African dance hits. This performance also featured one of Africa’s biggest vocal powerhouses, Waje.  

We also took the audience on a journey using music, dance, props and costumes to tell a story of a young fearless and relentless cub who was committed to increasing his people’s prosperity beyond the vast planes of the Serengeti and then across the world. This analogy was used to tell the story of United Bank for Africa (UBA) and its growth over the past decades. An even more exciting part of the performance was us creating an immersive experience that drew the audience into the natural habitat of the animals, through imagery on the screens, sound effects, synchronized lighting and specially created puppets of birds, lions, gazelles etc. All culminating into the final product.
