RETHINKING DETTY DECEMBER WITH A MULTI-LAYERED APPROACH

Don’t you just love a good December? The holiday season you’ve been looking forward to, the festivities, family time, and shared moments with loved ones. The crisp taste of harmattan lingers, reminding you of the year’s journey—the milestones, the memories—and nudging you toward the new one ahead. A cocktail of gratitude, reflection, joy, and excitement, all wrapped in the Dettiest December yet, where you can party hard without the guilt of unfinished goals.

December in Lagos is beyond the ‘season’; it’s a movement. Over the years, the month has evolved into an economic driver, a tourism magnet, and a convergence of global entertainment forces.

For us, the year 2024 was about redefining creative solutions by rethinking the Detty December experience. But December posed a challenge. The macroeconomic landscape had shifted, affecting consumer spending and brand investments in large-scale concerts. The usual flood of major events had dwindled.

“Last year came with its highs and lows, but one thing that stayed the same was our commitment to shaping culture and creating experiences that matter. No matter what, that’s what we do,” said Darey Art Alade, Chief Creative Director, Livespot360.

To keep the city pulsing, we took a multi-layered approach to Detty December, integrating industry networking, fashion, film, music, and nightlife into a seamless, high-engagement experience.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEK LAGOS: THE BIGGEST CREATIVE CONVENTION

Under the theme “Connecting Tides,” Entertainment Week Lagos (EWL) set the stage for a December that welcomed an unprecedented influx of tourists and international acts into Nigeria.

According to reports, Lagos welcomed approximately 1.2 million tourists, driving an impressive ₦111.5 billion in revenue across the tourism and entertainment sectors. Hotels accounted for ₦54 billion from 15,000 stays, while short-let apartments generated ₦21 billion from nearly 6,000 bookings.

EWL 2024 was a true cultural moment, boasting nearly 100 speakers, over 70 short films screened, high-value panel conversations, masterclasses, workshops, EMMY-nominated icons, and hybrid experiences that kept the creative ecosystem engaged from morning till midnight—both offline and online across the world.

EWL AT NIGHT: A WEEK OF ICONIC MOMENTS

With the EWL Opening Party setting the tone for a historic run, each night, the Livespot Entertarium evolved into an entirely new world.

In less than 24 hours, the space was reimagined, redesigned, and rebuilt to deliver a fresh, breathtaking experience. From the stage layouts to the lighting, ambiance, and interactive elements, no two nights were the same. It was an ever-evolving spectacle, pushing the limits of creativity, production, and execution.

Here’s a quick recap:

The Runway Coterie

Fashion met storytelling in a visually striking showcase featuring Malik Afegbua and an exclusive appearance by Richard Mofe-Damijo.

Jokes N Jollof - Clash of the Cs

What’s a convergence without Nigeria’s signature jollof? Comedy titans SLK, Efe Warri Boy, Forever, Broda Shaggi, Brain Jotter, Layi Wasabi, Phronesis, and Carter Efe battled it out, blending humor with social commentary in a night of lovable energy.

The Waiter Movie Premiere

A black-tie affair that brought together some of the biggest names in Nollywood for the exclusive unveiling of AY Makun’s latest film.

Turn Up Lagos

A star-studded finale where industry heavyweights like Mo Abudu, Ramsey Nouah, 2Baba, and Nancy Isime converged for the grand conclusion of EWL 2024.

CLUB X: WHERE LAGOS CAME ALIVE

Beyond EWL, Club X emerged as the epicenter of after-dark entertainment. Designed to push the boundaries of nightlife experiences, Club X delivered bespoke, high-production raves that blended music, culture, and tech-driven immersion. Each event under the Club X umbrella carried its own identity:

Bubuland 'The Nebula Experience'

A sensory-driven party that fused sound, visuals, and digital art into a seamless, otherworldly experience.

Detty Sexy Rave with Vogue Boys

A bold and dynamic celebration of fashion, dance, and music, spotlighting self-expression and creative freedom.

Club X with Yhemolee

A night built around Lagos’ most vibrant party culture, drawing in the city’s top nightlife influencers.

BUILDING THE BIGGEST STAGES

We also played a pivotal role in bringing some of December’s biggest concerts and activations, handling full-scale production and execution:

Rema Lagos Concert: We handled Heineken’s activation at Rema’s homecoming show, creating an engaging brand experience for the audience.

Stanbic IBTC FUZE Festival: A standout event designed to support young creatives in Music, Dance, Fashion, and Technology. Set for its fourth season, FUZE was produced by Livespot360 from concept to execution for Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers.

Lungu Boy Block Party powered by Empire: Livespot360 produced this high-energy block party, transforming the space into an immersive cultural experience. We also managed Heineken’s activation, ensuring deep audience engagement.

A NEW BENCHMARK FOR DETTY DECEMBER

In a year when the entertainment landscape faced significant shifts, we delivered an unprecedented lineup of projects in less than 30 days, sustaining the energy of Detty December while reimagining what immersive, multi-format entertainment could be.

“This year, we’re not taking our foot off the gas. 2025 is about pushing further, telling better stories, and making every project feel real and impactful. We’re just getting started,” Darey stated.
